FerAppease is a synthetic analogue of the MBAS, Maternal Bovine
Appeasing Substance, an important pheromone naturally secreted by the
sebaceous glands located on the skin of the udder. This pheromone plays
a crucial role in forming the bond between the calf and its mother.
FerAppease is applied topically on the nose of the animal and on the
nuchal area (5ml each application), stimulating the vomeronasal gland
and desensitising regions of the amygdala and hypothalamus. As a result,
threat perception and its stress consequences are dramatically
decreased. FerAppease is for use in healthy cattle only, and can be
applied every time animals are exposed to management, environmental and
physiological stressors.
